The three islands offer visitors a wide variety of dive packages, deep sea diving, scuba diving resorts and scuba diving tours. Grand Cayman diving is always determined by the weather. If the wind comes primarily from the North East, most of the diving is done along the Seven Mile Beach area which is the side of the island that most of the hotels and condo rentals are located.
The Cayman Islands are a very active British Crown Colony located in the Western part of the Caribbean. They are known for their beautiful golden beaches, crystal clear water, friendly locals, great diving locations, and tax free status. They have numerous underwater Marine Parks that are protected by the government and they offer dive packages into some of the most beautiful and unique water environments in the world. The Cayman Islands are known as the birthplace of diving in the Caribbean and they are always listed as one of the five top diving destinations in the world thanks to their clear waters, prolific marine life, and plunging sea walls.
Grand Cayman diving offers you over 200 dive locations that include the 12’ dive called ‘Stingray City’, shallow coral reefs, the Trinity Caves and the ‘Walls of Cayman’. This last dive location is known for its near vertical drop offs and virulent corals, sponges and abundant marine life. The three islands are not volcanic in nature, but the Cayman Ridge is an undersea mountain range created by volcanic activity millions of years ago. The ridge rises more than six miles from the ocean floor with the southern part being the deepest part of the Caribbean Sea. The Cayman Trench plunges to 24,759 feet deep and the entire area lures both novice and experienced divers alike.
Grand Cayman diving is easily accessible by boat with the shallows starting at 20 to 25 foot deep before the ocean floor falls 6,000 feet into darkness. With clear water year round that offers visibility of 100 feet, this is one of the best places for deep sea diving, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
