Diving Galapagos

If you are certified to scuba dive, then one of the best scuba adventures that can be had are in the Galapagos Islands. Diving Galapagos Islands is one of the most exciting destinations in the world, and they are listed as one of the seven underwater wonders of the world.

Divers should look into dive packages that include Wolf Island and Darwin Island when diving Galapagos, as they are definitely two small remote islands that are perfect for live aboard dive packages.

All of the islands are beautiful and are located in the Pacific Ocean 600 miles off of the coast of mainland Ecuador. Visiting Darwin Island takes 15 hours to reach from the main Galapagos group. While you are diving off of any of the islands, you have the chance to witness and swim with whales – namely great whales and humpbacks – dolphins, and other beautiful marine creatures. The islands are all home to a variety of birds with numerous species calling this tropical chain home.

With Darwin Island being one of the only places in the Galapagos Islands to scuba dive, you will want to make sure you bring a waterproof or underwater camera with you. You will want to take pictures of the whales, dolphins, and other marine life, as well as the majestic Darwin’s Arch that watches over the dive site like a sentinel. Diving in the Galapagos Islands will allow you to experience big swells, heavy surges, strong currents, thermo clines and more. Diving tours in the Galapagos is for more advanced divers, but well worth the dive package.

In addition to the dolphins and whales, you will also get the opportunity to swim with scalloped hammerhead and whale sharks. Both of these marine animals are fantastic to see and they never go lower than the 20 meter ledge around the island itself. Diving Galapagos is best done in August or September, and the live aboard dive package usually lasts for about 4 or 5 days before returning to Wolf Island and then the main Galapagos chain. These packages are all inclusive and there are numerous dive operators that offer these dive packages for your enjoyment.
